TAYLORSVILLE — Clarissa Sabedra scored 21 points and added six assists and five steals to lead the SLCC women's basketball team to its six straight win with an 82-62 victory over USU-Eastern Saturday night at Bruins Arena.
“One of the things she does so well is that she can pass it,” said SLCC head coach Betsy Specketer on Sabedra's play. “She just blew up the stat line tonight.”
Cassidy Whitney (12 points), Raushan Gultekin (12 points) and Shelby Richards (14 points) all scored in the double figures on the night to help contribute to the conference victory.
“Well, this team has shown a lot of people can score,” Specketer said. “We have some kids that are dangerous, both getting to the rim and shooting the three."
At the end of the first half of play the Bruins (17-4, 5-1 SWAC) had a 46-28 lead, and didn’t look back and finished the night shooting 48 percent from the field and pulling down 50 rebounds.
Caroline Ficher led the Eagles (13-4, 3-2) with 22 points, while Bryanna Adams, who prepped at American Fork HS, added 14 points.
“I thought we played really well; that team is such a dangerous team," said Specketer. “I thought we did a really good job, especially on the glass."
The Bruins will open up a six-game road trip at arch rival Snow College Jan. 24. The visiting Badgers handed SLCC its lone conference loss, 75-67, Dec. 18.
“We didn’t guard very well in that game, but defensively we have gotten much better,” Specketer said. "We are just going to have to play harder. We are excited about the matchup. It is a tough place to play, and we want to steal one on their floor.”
