TAYLORSVILLE — Brandon Morley recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards, and six other Bruins hit the double-digit mark in leading the SLCC men’s basketball team to a 95-41 home victory over Colorado Northwestern Community College Thursday.
“I thought our team played really hard, and I thought our kids played a complete game,” said SLCC head coach Todd Phillips. “You get up 20 points and everyone wants to dunk it, but our team played a complete game, and I was really pleased.”
The Bruins (17-4, 5-1) started the game with an 18-0 and pushed their lead up to 45-26 at the end of the half.
“Our kids battled. We are big and physical, and we know every game is going to be a battle,” said Phillips. “The best teams in the league will play tight and the third and fourth teams will play us tight as well.”
Blake Wilkinson scored 15 points, and Larry Okhomina, Marcus White, CJ Spjut, De'Sean Parsons and Gibson Johnson with 10 points each for the Bruins.
“One of the things on our board (before the game) was to let our defense create our offense,” said Phillips. “Our guys made the extra passes and a lot of guys scored.”
After a heartbreaking 61-59 loss to Southern Idaho Saturday night, the Bruins came ready to play and put that loss behind them.
“It was good to get back on the winning track," Phillips said. “It hurt; it was a tough loss, but we got back at it and had fun.”
The Bruins return to action Saturday when they welcome USU Eastern. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
