SLCC women thump CNCC at home

TAYLORSVILLE — Elsa Paulsson Glantz, Tanesha Daniels and Raushan Gultekin all scored in double figures to help Salt Lake Community College cruise to an 87-33 victory over Colorado Northwestern Community College Thursday night.

“I thought defensively we played really, really well, especially to start the game,” said SLCC head coach Betsy Specketer. “Then they went into a zone and we started to struggle to make shots, but we defended well and started fast, which set the tone.”

The Bruins started the game with a 24-2 run to before ending the first half leading 39-21. Then they allowed just 12 CNCC points in the second half.

Bruins' leading-scorer Glantz struggled in the first half in going just 1 for 9 from the field, but the second half was a different story. She ended the night with 17 points and five boards.

"I’m glad she kept her confidence because sometimes that happens,” said Specketer of Glantz’s first half. “She had the same look in the second half and was able to knock down some shots.”

With the win, the Bruins now sit at 5-1 in the conference standings and they are still looking to improve each and every game.

“We still have nine more games to play, and our goal is to be first, and to be first you have to beat some very tough teams," Specketer said. "We have a long way to go to get better. This team is special, and they are a good group and we will keep working.

SLCC will look to keep the winning streak alive when it hosts USU-Eastern at 3 p.m. Saturday.

“We have to do a better job reading what defense they're in,” Specketer said. “Also, we need to execute our plays a little bit better (against USU-Eastern)."

Students get into the game for free with their student ID.
